Would you raise your sister’s child? What about the child of the person you hate most in the world? When those two people are one in the same, then what?

When Sophie Blackwood gets a call in the middle of night that her sister, Jasmine, and brother-in-law, Alex, are dead, she finds she is utterly indifferent. The sisters had been on the outs for well over twenty years.

In a cruel twist, Sophie learns at the reading of her sister’s will that she has been named her niece Madeline’s guardian. Her sister’s request leaves Sophie reeling. Why on earth would Jasmine leave Madeline in her care? It makes no sense…or does it?

Jackson Price is a successful songwriter who paid his fair share of dues. A decade ago, while rambling through the Pacific Northwest, he had a fling with the vibrant Jasmine Blackwood. As fun as Jasmine was, it was her little sister Sophie who captured Jackson’s thoughts—and became the inspiration for his first hit song.

He attends Jasmine’s funeral, praying it might be a chance to see Sophie again. But even as he reconnects with Sophie, he also meets Madeline and is drawn to the fantasy of an instant family—the wife and daughter he’s always dreamed of having. Even so, he can’t ignore how familiar it all is to him.

OUR UNFINISHED BUSINESS explores the questions: How do you define the word family? What if the right thing to do isn’t the right thing for you to do? And how do you allow yourself to love again when all you’ve ever experienced is betrayal?

My Last Supper List

LSLHi everyone,

The other day while we were watching “Castle” (one of my FAVORITE television shows), they brought up the idea of a Last Supper List. Essentially, if you were to have a last supper, what twelve people (living or dead, famous or not) would you want to have there with you?

I’ve heard of other lists–such as the list of five celebrities you’d sleep with given the chance. Of course both lists are just fantasy but I think that this one is much more interesting (albeit a little bit morbid). As such, I’ve decided to share with you my Last Supper List.

Keep in mind, as I wrote this, it was a given that my husband and children were there with me. 🙂 These are in no particular order.

1. My Grandma and Grandpa Lee. (I realize this is two people but quite literally, you can’t have my grandpa without my grandma and vice versa…besides, my grandma usually was sitting on my grandpa’s lap so they’d only take up one chair.)

2. William Shakespeare. I LOVE him–enough said.

3. Pocahontas. As many of you saw my Tweet a few weeks back, I am her direct descendant and I think it would be fascinating to sit down with her and find out how it all really happened. (Not that I don’t trust the Disney version of the story–wink wink.)

4. Baby #1. Of course I would want to meet him.

5. Glenn Busby. I would love to sit with my husband’s father and thank him for setting such an excellent example for Tom–on how to be an amazing husband and wonderful father.

6. Tim Allen. With this eclectic group of folks, we might need a good laugh. Also, I think Tim Allen and I have many of the same political and life views.

7. Jennifer Weiner. Jen is one of my favorite authors. She makes me cry, she makes me laugh, and then she makes me laugh until I cry. I’d like to opportunity to tell her how much I adore and admire her.

8. Thomas Jefferson. As an educator, I would love to sit and talk with President Jefferson. He had innovative ideas regarding education and it would be fascinating to have a conversation with him.

9. Ghandi. Who wouldn’t want to meditate and get counsel from Ghandi?

10. Reba McEntire. Who doesn’t need a little music at dinner? Besides, Reba is one of the coolest people in the world.

11. Garth Brooks. (See #10–maybe they could sing a duet?)

12. Gertrude Stein. I wrote my Master’s Capstone on Stein and I have been fascinated with her since. She was a genius before her time and paved the way for women writers.

Okay. So there is my list. Were there any surprises? Why don’t you create your own list–I’d love to hear your #lsl. 🙂
